How to setup Nvidia Surround for triple screens

setting up your equipment Jun 26, 2024

If you are using a triple screen setup with a Nvidia graphics card, I strongly suggest to enable Nvidia Surround. The software tells your PC that 3 screens become 1 screen. It makes your life easier when you are trying to arrange the monitors in-game.

SUMMARY (THE QUICK TUTORIAL)

Keep reading if you want the detailed tutorial.

  1. Right click on the Desktop -> Show more options (Windows 11 only)
  2. Click -> Nvidia Surround
  3. Click -> Configure Surround, PhysX
  4. Check -> Scan displays with Surround
  5. Click -> Configure
  6. Arrange the displays in the correct order
  7. Set the right resolution & refresh rate
  8. Set the bezel correction
  9. Click -> Apply

OPENNING NVIDIA CONTROL PANEL

To start of, right click anywhere on the desktop. You should now see the option ''Nvidia Surround''. If you are using Windows 11, you will first need to click on ''Show more options'', then the ''Nvidia Surround'' option will appear.

Once the control panel opens, find the menu on the left and click on ''Configure Surround, PhysX''.

Then, make sure the ''Scan displays with Surround'' is checked, and click on ''Configure''.

CONFIGURATION WINDOW

The Configuration Window will show all three screens, and they will be numbered. The numbers will also appear on your screen. In the Configuration Window, set the screens in the order that they are in real life. For example, if in real life you read your screens as 4 2 1(left to right), set your screens as 4 2 1 in the Configuration Window.

If using 3 monitors, make sure the topology is set to ''1x3''. If you are using a fourth monitor, you should still select ''1x3''. We'll setup this monitor later on.

RESOLUTION & REFRESH RATE

Make sure the resolution is set at the maximum resolution your screens can handle. If you are not sure, the height will be the same as one monitor but the width will be multiplicated by 3 (three monitors wide).

1920x1080 triples = 5760x1080

2560x1440 triples = 7680x1440

The refresh rate is the amount of pictures your screen outputs per second. The faster it outputs pictures, the less “lag” visible, and the more smooth the screen becomes. It is important to set your refresh rate as the same value as your screen’s maximum refresh rate: if you have 240Hz screens, but are at 60Hz in the Control Panel, you will see 60Hz and are missing out on 4x the refresh rate (4x the smoothness).

BEZEL CORRECTION

The Bezel adjustment ensures a seamless transition between screens. Setup your Bezel to your Bezel size. You might have to manually fine-tune the Bezel as aligning screens can never be laser-cut perfect. The value will generally be between 0 and 50.

ACTIVATE SURROUND

When you are done, click on ''Apply''.

It takes a bit of time for the surround to activate, so please be patient, and do not click any mouse or keyboard buttons while it happens. It is 100% normal if the screens flicker during the process.

You can then close the Nvidia Control Panel.

4TH MONITOR SETUP

For some reason, when activating Surround when using a fourth monitor, it usually shuts off.

If it does, right click on the desktop and click on ''display settings''.

You should then see a graphic with a big monitor (Nvidia Surround Monitor) and a smaller one (4th monitor). Click on the 4th monitor.

Scroll down and head to the Multiple Display section. Click on the dropdown menu and select ''Extend these displays''. Your fourth monitor should now turn on!

Everything should be working fine at this point! Hopefully this helped you setup your triples screen! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
